Trenton: 15 Months!

Trenton, You are 15 months old!! I cannot believe how much you are looking more and more like a toddler and less and less like a baby. You have brought us a new meaning to what it “clean” means….your nickname is Tornado Trenton because it seems to be a daily occurrence of your natural disasters all over the living room. I don’t know how you do it sometimes…! Daddy takes you outside in the afternoons almost every day to play and ride your car. You absolutely love outside! You also started “daycare” at Miss Evelyn’s house with GiGi so generously taking you and picking you up since it’s a bit out of the way for both Daddy and I.

When you see yourself in the mirror or a picture of you and we ask who that is, you point to yourself and smile really big. It’s pretty cute. Daddy says I'm boosting your ego too much and you are going to grow up being conceded. I just say I am teaching you how to be confident in yourself :)

You have learned so many animals and sounds lately! I downloaded one app on my phone for you that says animals and sounds and within a few days you picked up on some already! You know how to say doggy (of course!), woof, duck, chicken, llama, hiss like a snake, moo….that’s all I can think of right now. And every time you walk into the house the first thing you say is, “hiiiii!!!!’ to Loretta and pet her :)

You are Mr. Independent though and just have to walk by yourself especially. Most of the time when we are out we have to carry you just because you refuse to hold our hands. I’ve also started a little collection of Toddler Tantrums to catalog all the crazy reasons why you throw a fit. You will love me one day. I know it ;)

We had your second Easter recently! Well, sort of. You got sick the Friday before Easter and we were actually in the hospital Easter night. You were running extremely high fevers and we were stuck in the hospital for an entire week! Daddy and I are so so very tired. They still don’t know what was wrong with you, but they are pretty sure it’s just some crazy long virus. On Friday, April 18, you woke up with a fever. We just figured it was a late reaction to the 2 shots you had on Tuesday. But by Saturday night your fevers just weren't going down so we decided to go the the ER. We were there for about 3 hours and the wonderful doctor was able to get the fever down but unfortunately they didn't stay down so we had to go back Sunday night. This time they admitted you to the hospital :( It's been a long week of uncomfortable hospital couches, tons of blood drawn, nurses waking you up for vitals, meds, or blood what seemed like every single time I finally got you to sleep during the night. You've been running consistent fevers averaging 104-105 degrees, which of course is high, for a baby especially. The frustrating part is all tests come back negative. The doctors have been fairly certain it's just some unknown nasty virus that is knocking you down, but it would be nice to know exactly what's wrong. They did find a bacteria in your stool called C-Diff on Tuesday so we have been giving you a new antibiotic for that. Hopefully it's working! You really hate the stuff. You gag every time and even puke it up on multiple occasions. Thursday you had a really good afternoon and ate a pretty good amount compared to the past week and even drank slightly more water than you have been. And thankfully they stopped your IV Thursday night so you were able to walk around the room without being attached to the IV pole! Gi-Gi came back over Thursday night as well and gave Daddy and I a much needed break. We went for a walk together and went outside to the koi pond and rec area. That was the first time I've been outside since Sunday!! I definitely needed it. You got another fever around 10-10:30 Thursday night but for the first time all week you went ALL NIGHT with no fever! Almost 11 hours!!

The doctors and nurses have all been fantastic and we are so grateful to live near Children's Hospital. There have been a couple nurses that we haven't been completely fond of but there have also been a couple that we absolutely fell in love with :) We finally got to go home after a few more tests Sunday night, and guess what?? NO FEVERS on Monday!! Daddy and I were ecstatic. Hopefully that means you are all clear and the virus has left your tiny little body. You actually haven't had a fever all week, thankfully! I guess we just needed to go home in order to stop the fevers. I hated seeing my baby go through so much!!! You cried more that week than you have your entire life :( Your voice even got a bit scratchy.

We (I) decided to celebrate Easter a couple weeks late though because I really wanted to do an Easter egg hunt and dress you up in your cute little outfit I got you :) So that means this weekend there will be some belated pictures to take and some partying to do! Next weekend we get to find out if you are having a little brother or a little sister!! So when I tell you about that, I'll show you some of your Easter pictures and how adorable you are at 15 months :)

Since Aunt Brittany and Uncle Montez have made it public, I can share with you also that you are going to have a baby cousin!!! Aunt Brittany is due probably somewhere around your birthday, so it'll be fun to see when Baby Cousin Cammon decides to enter the world. We are all pretty excited about it. Now only if they didn't just move 6,000 miles away to Alaska......

I love you sweet baby.

Baby #2: 16 Weeks

Sixteen weeks! This past month has gone by way faster than the previous months. Probably because your big brother was in the hospital for a week :) I am so glad I wasn’t further along in this pregnancy when Trenton was admitted, because hospitals are not very comfortable! How about you DON’T follow in your brother’s footsteps and you stay out of the hospital, ok? Ok :) The good news though, is I haven’t been nauseous much lately. I’m so very glad about that. And my belly is definitely growing. I have a nice, round, little belly, and that means you are growing too!

In about a week and a half we get to find out if you are a boy or a girl! We are pretty excited and cannot wait. Then I can go into planning mode. It's been a bit boring lately with not having anything to plan for since we already have everything we need except clothes if you are a girl. Typically I like to make my OB appointments on the day a new month starts, but since I am still confused about exactly how far along I am, it’s making it pretty difficult! At least after our ultrasound at the end of the month (with my OB office) we will get a good measurement and know exactly how big you are. I’m surprised about how well I am handling not knowing exact details actually….

Since not much has happened with you this past month, I don’t really have much to tell you. But once we find out if you are a girl or a boy, I will definitely write you another letter!

Also, since Aunt Brittany and Uncle Montez have made it public, I can share with you also that you are going to have a baby cousin!!! Aunt Brittany is due probably somewhere around your brother's birthday, which means he or she will only be about 3 months younger than you! So it'll be fun to see when Baby Cousin Cammon decides to enter the world. You will love having a cousin so close in age, I'm sure. We are all pretty excited about it. Now only if they didn't just move 6,000 miles away to Alaska......

We love you sweet baby. We can’t wait to meet you in about five months!

Baby #2: 13 Weeks!

Dear Little Baby #2,

We had our 12 week appointment today! Which really turned out to be a 13 week appointment because apparently tomorrow I am 13 weeks. The ultrasound tech told us wrong. So really, I have no idea when you are due! Could be October 14th, or October 21st, or somewhere around that vicinity! It's funny because I'm pretty sure if this happened with Trenton I would be really frustrated that I don't know the exact due date. But for some reason this time around I'm a little bit more non-chalant about it. You are coming sometime in October. That's good enough for now :) Besides, I'm sure at our next ultrasound they will give me a more accurate due date based on your measurements. We got to hear your heartbeat for the first time today though, and it was so great to finally hear that precious sound. It took the midwife a minute to find your heartbeat and not mine, and that is always so nerve wreaking to Daddy and I! But once we heard it, we both had a big sigh of relief and joy.

I finally told my coworkers this week as well. People have been speculating and asking if I was pregnant, so it was finally time to share the news. Of course, everyone was so excited for Trenton to be a big brother! And I always feel so much better when I don’t have to keep trying to find outfits to hide my growing belly :)

Lately I have also been feeling better; which is absolutely fantastic. I’m slowly getting more energy (some days at least) and I’m getting a handle on this nausea. I just have to make sure I eat fairly large snacks/meals every 2 hours….I’m so tired of eating….! We don’t get to find out if you are a boy or girl until next month, but I just can’t tell what I think you are yet! On one hand, I have to eat all the time, which makes me think you are a boy. But on the other hand, I can be a bit emotional! So it makes me think you are a girl. For example, on Sunday, I really wanted some Costco for lunch. But when we parked and as I was getting Trenton out, I realized I forgot my wallet with our Costco card! (Turns out you could in fact, go to the Food Court without your card. I just didn’t realize that). But my heart was so set on a chicken bake that I actually started crying! My eyes were watering as I was thinking of having to miss out of the awesomeness of Costco chicken bakes. It was ridiculous. Then I started laughing and apologizing to Daddy through my tears because I felt so outrageously emotional; completely unlike me. But the fantastic husband that your daddy is, drove us all the way back home just so I could get my card and finally have my chicken bake :)

This first trimester went by so much more slowly this time. I think it also had to do with the fact that we found out about you an entire month before we found out about Trenton! But now that we are starting our second trimester, I am hoping it'll go by with a breeze.

We are starting to talk to Trenton about you and about how there is a baby growing in Mommy's tummy, but he is still too young to really understand what I'm talking about. I'm sure he will be a great big brother though and love you to pieces! Until you get old enough to go after his toys of course :)

Baby #2: Eight Weeks

Dear Baby #2,

We love you so much! Daddy, Trenton, and I got to see your tiny little growing body last week in our first ultrasound! Though Trenton didn’t really want to sit still so Daddy could really see…It turns out that that you are smaller than we originally thought and this week you are actually 8 weeks. I thought we were a couple weeks further along. But your heartbeat was strong already and I loved seeing it beat on the ultrasound :) According to this ultrasound your official due date is October 21! But you need to come a day early like your brother so we can stick to our significant family event dates being on the 7th and 20th of the months :)

My belly is so big already! I had to pull out the maternity clothes for work around FIVE weeks…oh goodness. I hope this doesn’t mean I am going to look like a giant elephant come summer. I’ve been pretty sick this time around, but thankfully, no vomiting. Just a ton of nausea and some minor food/smell aversions. As long as I keep food in my stomach then it seems to help a bit. I did come to the realization the other day though, that when I was pregnant with Trenton, I could have very well had morning sickness, but I just didn’t know. See, for about five years before Daddy and I got married and was pregnant with Trenton, I had daily unexplained nausea and barely ate because of it. And after the first trimester with Trenton, all of that stopped. I sometimes joke that I should’ve gotten pregnant earlier just to cure my mystery illness :) So with Trenton I’m not sure if it was my normal nausea or baby nausea, or a mixture of both. And now that I have been nausea free for almost two years, the nausea with you is no fun at all! I definitely do not miss being sick every day. But at least this time I know it is because you are growing into a strong little person inside my belly!

Even though you can definitely tell I am pregnant, only a few people at work know. And that is really only because while I was in Dallas, TX for my firm meeting (the week after we found out about you!) I was eating tons of saltine crackers and drinking tons of ginger ale. So they are smart women and picked up on it :) I am hoping to wait until at least 10-11 weeks to tell my team though, but we will see how much more I can hide you! I’m sort of just hoping everyone thinks I’m getting fat instead…But of course, later this week someone asked me (that didn't know) if I was pregnant...! yikes. I guess I do officially look pregnant....I am just banking on the fact that A. most men are clueless when it comes to this stuff and B. most men would never ask a woman if she was pregnant.

Daddy and I did pick out a couple of girls names if you are a girl! But we are still arguing on boys names if you are boy….We will get to find out in May though and I can’t wait!

I am still nursing your brother, even though I don't think I am producing much milk anymore. He only nurses 2-3 times a day though so I am still hoping he will continue to self-wean over the next few months. I don't necessarily want to nurse a toddler and a baby, but I'm not entirely sure how to gently wean so it seems at this rate I may be nursing you both until your four! I'm sure that is an exaggeration, but that's okay :)

I want to make sure I document every pregnancy the same way so each one of my children can have a book of their life one day and no one will feel left out. So like I did with Trenton, here is my monthly photo of you in my belly! At eight weeks with you, I am the same size I was at 12 weeks with Trenton. Yikes...!

Valentine's Surprises

Well Trenton,

Now that you are a toddler, all my high hopes of really cute photo ops have gone out the window. You refuse to sit still and look cute for any photo I want to take! sigh.....oh well, maybe one day :) I did get some cute photos for Daddy though :)

Something exciting did happen the day after Valentine's Day as well! We found out you were going to be a big brother!!! We are so excited :) You will be 21 months older than your little brother or sister and I just know you are going to love all over her or him.

I didn't surprise Daddy as big as with you, but he still was surprised :) I really thought that I wasn't pregnant since I am still breastfeeding you and we had been trying for a couple months. But God blessed us with another tiny little miracle! Surprise!!!So many other couples struggle in many ways to get pregnant; that makes this little baby that much more of a blessing. Little Baby West #2 is coming though! I figured it happened around the same time we actually got you sleeping through the night in your own room (which was a tough miracle!) because you stopped nursing 457884 times during the night.

I took a test when I woke up in the morning and to my surprise it was positive! So I went to the store to get one of those expensive tests that say how far along I am to make sure. And it said 4-5 weeks! So I just couldn't wait any longer and I went and woke Daddy up and told him to read the test :) He wasn't happy with me haha He told me last time I just wasn't allowed to bombard him at work. So I didn't. But I guess I still bombarded him in his sleep because he didn't get happy until hours later :) Don't get me wrong, we was excited to know you were going to be a big brother, he just wasn't happy with the way I told him. Oops! :) I just couldn't wait two more hours until he woke up...what can I say?

Since we were sure we wouldn't be able to keep it a secret for very long, we decided to take our announcement picture in front of the same rock and in the same style as when we announced you were coming. I also bought you a big brother shirt months ago in preparation for this day.

When we told Grandma Kathy, we got on Facetime and I told her she may need to postpone her trip out here again in April. Then we leaned the camera down to show her you and your shirt. She was so excited! Then for Daddy's side of the family, me, Daddy, and Brittany had a bet going on who would notice your shirt first. We all had best on Aunt Tiana, but she failed us :) Her excuse was that you were walking and moving too much....uh huh :) But since Pimpa had to leave for work, we decided to just show them all the announcement picture instead since apparently no one pays attention to details.....Of course they were all excited as well! Pimpa said he "just knew" but I think he just wanted to be right since we proved him wrong in not getting pregnant again by the end of 2013 :)

We told the rest of my side of the family on our private family facebook group. I posted the picture with the caption “Who is going to call me first…? :)” Breanna won. Actually she texted me first. Great Grandma Norma called me first.

Your grandmas were just so excited to have another grandbaby that they posted it on their public facebook walls, even though I wanted to keep it a secret for a few more weeks….oh well. They just couldn’t contain themselves I guess :)

Little Baby West #2,
We cannot wait for you to join our family in October! You are going to enjoy your big brother and you have the most amazing Daddy around. I was a bit sad though because just a few days after we found out you were coming, my skinny jeans no longer fit!! I had to pull out my maternity pants from the basement already! At just 5 weeks!! I did sulk for a little bit, but I am working on embracing my already growing belly :)

We are going to have TWO babies soon and we are thrilled and excited about this new chapter in our lives. God is good and we are so blessed!

I love you Trenton and Baby West #2!

LoveAlways,
Mommy

Your First Birthday!!!

My sweet Trenton!
You are a big one year old now! This past year has flown by and I  am so blessed to be your mother. One year ago you made us Mommy and Daddy and we wouldn't change it for the world. Sadly you were really sick for your birthday and we spent your and Daddy's birthday in the hospital again this year! Let's not make that a tradition, okay? But you had really high fevers, another ear infection, and even vomited a few times so we took you to the ER where your temperature was 105. yikes...! Every doctor we saw said it couldn't be teething because fevers don't get that high with teething and it must be something else (though they never could figure it out). But the doctors and nurses were wrong this time because on your birthday two teeth broke through and your fevers declined rapidly right after. Since your fevers have gotten higher every time teeth broke through, I finally bought you an amber necklace to wear since it is supposed to help with pain. So here is to hoping the next round of teeth won't be nearly as bad!
Because you were sick though, we had to cancel your birthday celebrations :( We had planned to take you to the aquarium for the first time and then have family and a few friends over in the evening for some food and cake. Family and a couple friends did still come over though since it was Daddy's birthday too, so that was nice.

One thing I am not happy with that came with you becoming a toddler though, are the tantrums! My goodness, the attitude! It's amazing how such a big attitude can come from such a tiny person....! As soon as you turned one and started feeling better, the temperamental child came out and we don't like it! We want our sweet, easy going, loving baby back.

Some stories from the past month:

-You love it when Daddy mimic’s you; and now we have created a monster. We were sitting on our bed together and you started rocking when Daddy copied you. Now you won’t stop throwing yourself back and rocking. One day you are going to give yourself whiplash! But you have a little rocking chair that Gi-Gi got you, which you love to sit and rock in :)
-Two stages we are ready to be done with: throwing everything down when you are done with it, and screaming. Though sadly I am pretty sure the screaming stage will last quite awhile
-When we tell you to say mama or dada you deliberately stare us down and yell “BOB!” rude….. You only say mama when you are mad. At least you say Dada more often. And even in the past few days you have really loved saying Dada, and call out to him all the time. It's very cute :)
-For awhile there you have been driving us crazy with your eating habits! You were only eating fruit and crackers for a good month or longer. Nothing else. Now that you got those teeth though, I'm thinking it was because of that.
-Sadly, you’ve even stopped drinking milk during the day! You have refused for a couple months now to drink any and all types of milk during the day. We've tried breastmilk, goat's milk, soy milk, almond milk....in a bottle, in different sippy cups, warm, cold, mixed with breast milk......nothing. At least you are still nursing a few times a day though. I'm thinking you are going to be an early weaner! :(
-I had a dream a few weeks ago that all the sudden you stood up and started running. Not just walking and taking steps, but full on running. Luckily, that hasn’t happened! But on January 6, 2014, you started standing up by yourself and taking some lunging steps! It is pretty exciting :)
-On January 9, 2014, you and I were playing and reading on the floor in your room and I got on to you for hitting Loretta with your bag of cereal. And what do you do? Lean over and give me a big hug and kiss right on the lips. Well played kid….well played…..
-I think my favorite part of what you do lately is read. You pull out some of your books from your toy chest and sit and babble away flipping pages like you are reading your book. It is the cutest thing. You even “read” the DVD cases :)
-You had your first New Year’s this month as well! Our friend, Naomi, stayed the night while her parents went out and you two decided you wanted to bring in the New Year also. So you were up until 1:30am playing together and eating Cheerios

This year I want to work on progression, not perfection. I am a checklist sort of person and love to check things off and be done with them. But that’s not life. I need to be learning and growing and getting better every day. I will never be best at life, but I sure can get better. I want to slow down more and really focus on my family and spending time in the moment. One thing I thing us grownups are bad at these days, is being glued to our electronics. We are addicted to our smartphones! My goal this year is to intentionally put my phone down more often and focus on the real life people around me. I want to be able to teach you by example that real life contact and real life relationships are so much more important and genuine than their electronic counterparts. I don’t know how bad electronics will impact your life, but I imagine they will be imbedded in everyday life even more than they are now, if that is even possible. I hope you can learn to distinguish the differences and give yourself a break to focus on real life people every once in a while, Trenton. Hopefully I can be a good example of that as you grow up.

Trenton, you are one silly kid, do you know that?? Here are some videos and pictures of you from the past month!
Trenton loves to walk! (with help of course) You walked at least a block holding our hands and you were laughing the entire time :)

It snowed the week after your birthday!! It was your first snow day and you actually enjoyed it :)

 Mommy and Trenton!
You liked it until I made you make a snow angel and the snow fell into your eyes :)

 Daddy and Trenton!

We had fun playing in the snow as a family :)

I love me some Trenton kisses

Your 12 month photo looks like a school picture! You are so cute with that smile :)

 "Oh...mom...!!!"
The birthday boys!

(video below) Who needs hands or silverware when you can cut out the middleman altogether??
(video above) You have learned sign language! This video is of you saying "please" to some blueberries (one of your favorite fruits). You also know how to say "more".

(video above) Oh Trenton...you are one silly, silly boy! This video was made a couple days after you learned how to clap :)

11 Months

This past month we got to celebrate your first thanksgiving! You actually played by yourself and with other extended family members for awhile which is a huge improvement for you. You just love your Mommy too much :) We discovered you LOVE cranberry sauce too! I think you enjoyed your Thanksgiving dinner very much, especially since we are working on expanding your food choices away from just fruits, veggies, and chicken.

We took you on your first “Black Friday” experience as well. Except these days Black Friday isn’t crazy like it used to be; it’s really just another busy shopping day. But we had fun. We also went and got your first Christmas tree! We went to a farm in Woodstock and went on a hayride, ate funnel cakes (you didn’t. We didn’t want you eating all that sugar), played on the swings and slide, and looked at all the trees. You loved to feel and play with all the trees! Unfortunately we didn’t get to actually cut down our Christmas tree because I didn’t like the look of the trees they grew. But they did have some imports from North Carolina so that’s what we got instead. Daddy cut off the end of the trunk so we can make it into an ornament for your first Christmas! We tried to get you to help Daddy saw, but lately you have been refusing to stand up….

But surprisingly you have been pretty good with the tree inside. Daddy got it all set up that day and I got it all decorated that night and you haven’t really bothered it. Sadly though, it fell over and broke some ornaments :( It even broke my and Daddy’s first Christmas ornament together :( But luckily I was able to recreate it on a plastic clear ornament bulb.

My silly boy this past month:

-Trenton, I think you may turn into a cheerio one day. Or a blueberry! As of right now those are your favorites. You are constantly eating cheerios and you can eat half a carton of blueberries in one sitting. You love Cheerios so much that when you cough and have a mouth full of them, you cover your mouth just to keep the Cheerios in. Silly boy!
-You love to eat cardboard. I had to move all cardboard boxes of food in the pantry to the top shelves so you don’t chew holes in them all!
-You’ve learned to roll your tongue, and think the new way to smile is to scrunch your face up. It’s pretty cute :) and you make us all laugh when you do it
-Trenton, you are so smart that you were playing with a water bottle and cap one night and the next thing we know you had put the cap on the bottle and screwed it on pretty tight! I gave birth to a genius, I know :)
-Occasionally you will call me “Mama” or Daddy “Dada” but really the only name you call consistently is “Bob” also known as Dog. Whenever Loretta or Moby come around you just yell “Bob. Bob. Bob!!!!” And Daddy says the first thing you do when you wake up is yell for Bob (Loretta). So we are thinking Bob is your first word.
-You love Loretta so much. I love it when you go up to her and give her big hugs and she lets you lay on her. She really is good with you. Except for the other day for some reason she bit your cheek :( You forgave her though and now we are watching you both more closely to make sure it doesn’t happen again. But you still love her. And love to play fetch! You’ve got quite an arm on you, little man. You love to throw Loretta’s tennis ball for her; and yourself.
-Whenever someone is on the floor, you feel like you need to come over and climb on them. I’m thinking it’s your baby version of wrestling. You’ve been watching too much WWE :)

Speaking of WWE….you really don’t like car rides at night. I’m guessing you don’t like it being dark. But I try to calm you down with the Wheels on the Bus app, singing your favorite songs, the Peekaboo Barn app, Veggietales on YouTube, Ninja Turtles on YouTube…and none of it works. But what does work? WWE Raw on YouTube. Sigh…..

Trenton, you had your first Christmas!! I have to admit though, it wasn't very fun yet. You could really care less about opening your presents after the first 5 seconds. Next year will be more fun though :) You got some good presents that you love to play with! And it was such a good feeling to have our first Christmas as a family and start making our own traditions. Uncle Kasey, Uncle Montez, and Aunt Brittany all came over for Christmas Eve and we had dinner together and opened presents from each other. Then Christmas morning you opened presents from Santa! Daddy was having so much fun writing "From Santa" on all your presents, that he forgot to putting any from us until the last one. Which was a can of Puffs. But we all know that was the biggest hit anyways! You can eat an enire can of Puffs in 2 days.

For the past month or so we have been slowly trying to get you to sleep in your crib and not nurse 324455634 times during the night. And I have to say I am finally seeing a breakthrough! The past couple nights you have slept in your bed all but a couple hours and only nursed once during the night! You still wake up 6 times throughout but I am able to get you back to sleep within minutes. When you have kids, I will make sure to invest in a really nice carrier for you and your wife. It is truly a life saver :) I've been using it for your night wakings to help you fall back to sleep quicker. One day I know you will sleep more than 2 hours at a time.....

On a happier note though.....Its almost your first New Years! But that really means nothing in the baby world because I am hoping you won't be up :) Unfortunately Daddy has to work but hopefully he will get off early so he can celebrate New Years at home!

Next up on the Agenda: Your FIRST BIRTHDAY!!!!!

 Your first Falcons Game!!

You love riding on Daddy's shoulders. Even when he is wearing an ugly Christmas sweater :)

Look at you being a big boy! You love to rock now. You will even be sitting on the floor, or in someones arms, and start throwing yourself backwards to "rock"

I am still having a hard time taking your photos.... :)

Poor baby. You absolutely HATED Santa! Maybe next year will be better

You  love to make messes.....and you have the cute little cheesy smile that makes it hard to get mad
